Annual reports are critical in communicating a company's performance, governance, risk management, and strategic direction to investors and stakeholders. The International Finance Corporation (IFC) wanted to build a self-assessment tool that helps identify strengths and areas for improvement, ensuring annual and/or sustainability reports align with good international practice in sustainability and climate reporting.

Goal
The Create & Assess tool aims to offers practical guidance on key topics that companies should address in their communications with investors and other stakeholders, including their annual reports.

Defining the Platform
In collaboration with IFC, we defined product requirements based on IFC’s Model Annual Report Structure and benchmarks with IFRS S1 and S2, ESRS, and GRI standards.

Testing the Assessment
A detailed and interactive prototype was created to validate content flow and the assessment output. Feedback was gathered and addressed before moving the tool into development.
Self Assessing
The self-assessment covers key elements of annual reporting and includes detailed questions and good practice guidelines to assess a report on a scale from 1 (Poor) to 5 (Excellent). The tool also provides recommendations and links to resources that help users navigate an evolving sustainability reporting landscape.

Results
Each section is scored with an overall assessment and detailed feedback on areas needing improvement.

Benchmarking
The questions of the self-assessment tool are mapped to the ISSB IFRS S1 and IFRS S2, Pre-Omnibus ESRS, and GRI standards.
Design System
Design styles and components were built off the existing library for the website to accommodate new functionality.
